El Viaje Vertical by

PATRICIO REIG

This summer Patricio Reig will take you on a journey in the name of art. Let his stunning work bring you inside his creative world in the beautiful surroundings of Norrviken.

To travel can be an inner journey or an outer one. It changes us and our perspective. Art is a journey without return that fills our soul and defines our style. Photography is a representation of truth and a way to leave a mark. Art never ends and always wants to investigate. Nothing is said and nothing seems to indicate that a horizon is visible. It is a blind journey, but full of light at the same time. The searcher need food for their fantasy, an impulse to his desires and a leitmotif to guide them.

The Argentinian born artist/photographer/poet Patricio Reig is a multifaceted artist who combines diverse technical resources to treat photography not only as a testimonial graphic element, but also as an object, or almost as a spectral presence, which gives the viewer the opportunity to find the nuances that turn the image into a living reflection. His work transpires beyond the photographic paper where it has been trapped, and stimulates the effect of memory and nostalgia, this time intimately related to our most immediate present. He prints and sets his images on special oriental paper, folded over and over, and finally dipped in a bath of coffee and sodium thiosulfate. He has found the result intriguing ever since his very first experiments: fortuitous coffee stains become scars that denote each photograph, and consequently every story they tell. As he himself says: ”A portrait is not the recording of a single identity, but rather the layering of many elements. For this reason, the image may be fragmented, pieced back together, or even folded over, and yet it never loses its essence.”

Patricio Reig (San Juan, Argentina, 1959). After earning a PhD in Architecture in Barcelona, he began studying photography independently. His career has unfolded between Barcelona, Buenos Aires, and Milan, where he now lives and works. He has always been interested in experimenting with alternative photographic processes. His works are included in several public and private collections in America, Europe, and Asia.
