Boteti River, Botswana, Day to Night , 2024
I recently traveled to Botswana to create a new Day to Night image in the Okavango Delta, a decade after photographing the Serengeti waterhole. I was eager to witness how this remarkable landscape has evolved and how wildlife continues to adapt.
Spending 18 hours in the Boteti River basin, I observed nature’s resilience in the face of extreme conditions. Despite the intense 100+ degree heat and prolonged drought, life persists. Elephants, a keystone species, navigate the challenges of a changing environment, shaping the land around them. Their presence, while impactful, is a testament to their ability to endure and adapt.
Throughout the day, I watched as animals approached the scarce water sources with both caution and determination, each moment reflecting the delicate balance of survival. While the dynamics of water-sharing have shifted, the perseverance of these species highlights the power of adaptation. It left me reflecting not only on the challenges ahead but also on the remarkable ability of life to endure, evolve, and find new ways to thrive.
